My name is Andy Stewart and I am the Leadership Oklahoma Intern this summer. I was the intern last summer too, so this trip will be my 3rd time around the block. Now, if you're counting, this summer and last summer only add up to two trips. You see, I was also a student on the trip for YLOK Class XI. But back to my job. I do typical intern stuff: paperwork, errands, checking on LeeAnne so she doesn't go crazy. You know, the basics. Those things can be found with nearly every internship. Something that cannot be found in any other internship is getting to participate in YLOK. It's actually the best thing about my job. So before we go any further, I'll tell you a little bit about myself.

| This is me adventuring with friends! |
I just finished my junior year at OU. I absolutely love it there. I am majoring in Letters and earning a minor in Constitutional Studies. My favorite food is ice cream and The Office is my favorite show. All in all, I'm a pretty normal college kid. This next part is copied from last year's post, but I love it and believe it is still accurate. When I grow up, I want to change the world. Or maybe just change people's lives (I guess both could work. I'm not too worried about the details.) Really, though, I want to create change as I'm growing up, because I don't know if I'll ever truly get to the point of being "grown up." My favorite thing to do is adventure. Bob Goff, the author of Love Does, says "Being engaged is a way of doing life, a way of living and loving. It's about going to extremes and expressing the bright hope that life offers us...that's what I want my life to be about." I could not agree more with his idea.
YLOK is an adventure like no other.
Not only is it highly competitive to be selected for the trip, but there is
no other place that combines elements such as opportunity, leadership, and
fun. We will visit nearly every corner of Oklahoma to see all that she has to
offer. Business and community leadership, tradition, history, growth, and all
sorts of other amazing things Oklahoma possess. Every place we visit and every
person we meet strives to make a difference in their community. For this
reason, we are going to get to see a lot of amazing people and things. We
will receive a full barrage of the Oklahoma Standard. And when you meet
something as powerful as the Oklahoma Standard, you are forced to make a
choice: stay how you are or rise to the challenge and embrace the mindset.
Those who rise to the challenge are those who make a difference. It's what
makes Oklahoma special. Not only do we have adults who are leading the
charge, but we have youth from across the state who want to make the same
difference.
So as we start, be ready to follow us
on our adventure this week. We will learn, we will be challenged, and
we will grow. Not only in our personal development, but also in ideas,
aspirations, and even friendships. YLOK is ready to change the next generation
of leaders and we hope you will join us in this goal!
